Ngāi Tahu had received feedback that parents wanted more support for using te reo Māori at home. They decided to update an existing but outdated digital resource.
A team of freelancers was assembled, and we proposed a full remake. Together, we created something that far surpassed the original.
New illustrations brought more colour and energy. Full audio dialogue was recorded. Animation and hidden "Easter eggs" were added to reward exploration and encourage repeated play.
The app was built with ActionScript 3, with new functionality that allowed children to:
- Save their finished story for later
- Print it out at home
- Or watch it as a narrated picture book
